Name History

The name of the hotel was taken from Athinais, empress of the Eastern Roman Empire. She was the daughter of the Athenian philosopher Leontius, and lived in the 5th century A.D. She was christened Eudocia and was married to emperor Theodosios II (421 A.D). Athinais promoted the Greek culture and language in the Empire. She used her influence to protect Pagans and Jews. She was the founder of the “Pandidaktirion” in Constantinople (425 A.D.), which was a school of philosophy, rhetoric, Latin and Greek./p>
